Jon Anderson, Director, Founder and CEO of Harland Medical Systems
Mr. Anderson brings over 18 years experience starting, growing, and selling manufacturing equipment businesses. In 2002, he founded Harland Medical Systems and developed its first products. Prior to Harland Medical Systems, he co-founded Sicron, Inc., a company that provides capital equipment to disk drive manufacturers. As president, he developed business with the major national disk drive manufacturers.
Patrick Guire, Ph.D., President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board
Dr. Guire is an inventor with 24 patents, and author of more than 75 scientific publications, and reports to meetings of national and state scientific societies. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Society for Microbiology, the Society for Biomaterials, the New York Academy of Sciences, and Sigma Xi – the Scientific Research Society of North America. He was awarded Woodrow Wilson Foundation and NIH predoctoral and postdoctoral fellowships. During his career and under his leadership, government grant and contract projects of over $25 M have been won and invested in bioanalytical, enzyme, cell culture, biosensor, and medical device technologies. His achievements have been recognized with the 2006 Tibbetts Award for outstanding participation in the SBIR Program and the Minnesota High Technology Association 2008 Techne Award as Technology Executive of the Year (Small and Growing). Patrick received his PhD from the University of Illinois.
Ronald Ofstead, Ph.D, Director, Senior Partner, DeviceAdvisors, LLP
Dr. Ofstead is a chemistry and polymer materials specialist, with a BSci in Chemistry, and MS and PhD in Organic Chemistry. He served as Vice President, Chemical Materials Development, for SurModics, Inc., where he provided technical and managerial leadership in new chemicals and polymers development, materials characterization and testing laboratories, and surface analysis laboratories. Dr. Ofstead held the position of Director of Laboratories at Science, Inc., a privately-held startup medical device company, with responsibility for product development, performance testing, manufacturing process development, and pilot production. He also held numerous positions at 3M Company, most recently directing research and product development in 3M’s biotechnology and bioseparations business areas. Dr. Ofstead has over 30 patents issued or applied for, 25 of which relate to polymer materials for environmental or medical uses.
Melvin Swanson, Ph.D., Director
Dr. Swanson is a biochemistry and microarray coating specialist, with a PhD. in Biochemistry. He was a Co-Founder and Director of Biochemistry at SurModics, Inc where he provided technical and managerial leadership in new biomolecule immobilization technology for immunoassay, proteomic, and genomic array slides and hydrogel coating for medical devices. He is also the founder of Baratec, LLC. Dr. Swanson is inventor or coinventor of a large number of patents and author of numerous peer-reviewed publications.
Wayne Vander Vort, J.D., CFO, Director & Board Secretary
Mr. Vander Vort joined and incorporated ISurTec in 2004. He serves as the Chief Financial Officer, Administrative and Legal Affairs Officer, and Corporate Secretary. Mr. Vander Vort practiced law for thirty years in Minneapolis as a transaction attorney. Following his years of practice he has served as a business and financial consultant to various companies. He is also a member of the Board of Directors. Mr. Vander Vort earned his BS from the University of Minnesota and his JD from William Mitchell College of Law.
